High increase in imports and a decrease in exports

A Customs services 2007 first semester toll revealed that Algeria’s imports witnessed a $2 billions increase with $12.804 billions within last six months to $10.608 billions in 2006 same period, while incomes decreased as they have been estimated at $27.11 billions. 2006 same period incomes registered $28.302 billions.
Customs toll, of which El Khabar got a copy, underscored a 20.70% imports rise while exports decreased with 4.21% which is due to decline of both hydrocarbons productions and prices comparing to last year. In this context, the toll remarked an increase in food and merchandizes imports which reached $2.260bs to $1.868bs in 2006.
As far as imports destined production system they have doubled as reaching 4.037 billions to $2.9 billions last year, while equipment articles’ imports reached $4.689bs to $4.298bs last year.
However, non oil exports reached $409bs with a decrease in some exported articles. The US remains Algeria’s first client with 6.889bs followed by Italy $4.660bs whereas France still Algeria’s first exporting country with $2.390bs followed by China $1.30bs.
