Ech-Chorouk, April 28, 2007

The Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Chakib Khalil said yesterday in a press conference in Barcelona that Sonatrach, the Algerian state energy company would focus on “gaining shares in other companies’ reserves”, “bringing technology” and “strengthening its presence in some markets”.

As Algeria has been looking for investments for 20 years in order to develop its gas reserves, Sonatrach carries out, at present activities throughout the world, said Chakib Khalil. He added that Sonatrach is a pioneer in LNG sector in addition to the company’s financial resources.

It’s worth recalling that an important Algerian delegation led by the Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil took part in the proceedings of LNG15, the International Conference on Liquefied Natural Gas held from April 24-27 in the Spanish city of Barcelona. The next LNG16 will be hosted by Algeria in 2010.
